How New Creations in Christ Create Transformative Relationship with Horses

Success is the quality of the journey that begins with submission to God’s will and continues until His will becomes our joy.  There is a world of difference between the following two scriptures.

“O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me;  nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”  – Matthew 26:39

“I delight to do They will, O God.” – Psalm 40:8

The beginning of the journey recognizes and accepts God’s choice above our own, but it is a conscious decision of submission, capitulation, and resignation that subjugates a personal preference for a different circumstance by yielding to the will of God.  Girl horse source unknown

Horses begin training by accepting the will of the trainer over their own preference to laze in the pasture with herd buddies. They often submit, capitulate, and are resigned to the greater power of the trainer. Horses may offer obedience, but it is a conscious decision each one makes to yield to the new boss.

Transformative Relationship

One must have observed or experienced a transformative relationship to truly understand it.  The epitome of transformative relationship is becoming a New Creation in Christ. The event that changes the old into the new is the arrival and home-coming of the Holy Spirit within a human.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

The difference between transformative relationship and all other relationships is that the principals are changed – they are transformed from what they were to something new, something more. Not only are the individuals changed, but the once clear line of separation has blurred.

In the process of transformative relationship total and complete independence is broken by one’s own deliberate act. Transformative relationship binds two souls in a way no other contract, agreement, or partnership can. The more profound the transformation the more difficult it becomes to tell where one ends and the other begins or who picked up which habit or mannerism from the other.

The primary characteristic of transformative relationships is endless commitment. There is no deal breaker. The union is forever. Some may define forever as till death do them part while others believe that death has no power over the continuation of the relationship.

Building a Forever Relationship with your Horse

The process of transformative relationship with a horse begins with commitment and continues with:

  • Liberty work
  • Ground exercises/games
  • Pasture or stall visits just “because”
  • Pursuing challenges designed to reveal weaknesses in faith
  • Obstacles
  • Teaching
  • Practice
  • Fellowship with Christ and other members of His body in the equine community

Discipleship with horses is the subject and heart of Christian Horse Training (CHT). The foundation of both sanctification and CHT is God’s Word in the person of Jesus Christ and the living Word of scripture. CHT is not a facility or a scripted lesson plan.

Christian Horse Training is a lifestyle of commitment.

Specific routines or repetitive “games” that work for some trainers are not the lifeblood of CHT and do not necessarily produce transformative relationship. Simple routine and repetition of a particular exercise more predictably create a habit of task than a habit of obedience. The secret of relationship is not what is done, but how, why, and by whom it is done.

Christian Horse Training

CHT concepts are taught using gospel parables, epistles, and behaviors modeled by Christ Himself. Relationship with Jesus Christ rests on an immovable foundation of faith, focus, obedience, and transformative relationship; not to any cue, cause, or set of behavioral principles. It is impossible to have a meaningful relationship with a thing; there must be a somebody of unique identity who may both know and be known.

There is a world of difference in experience, intent, reward, and promise between devotion to some ONE and devotion to some THING.

Every journey with the Lord is a personal one. CHT focuses on each individual horse and human and not any particular discipline, philosophy, or doctrine of horsemanship. The horses who bless us with relationship haven’t read any books on Natural Horsemanship, Classical Dressage, clicker training, or Christian Horse Training. Horses haven’t even read the Bible, yet they are not conflicted about the nature and identity of their Creator or the spirit He gave them and the plan by which they live. Gospel Principles and horse training

What is “Discipleship with Horses”?

Discipleship with horses describes, teaches, and shares how the same principles of your journey of joy with Jesus Christ can be used to offer leadership to a horse to bring it into delightful and confidant fellowship with you, a worthy master. Gospel messages are the foundation of CHT.

Christian Horse Training (CHT) offers horses relationship that transforms conscious capitulation into reflexive, instinctive obedience built upon faith in a worthy leader.

Delight in God’s will does not recognize any conscious decision to obey or preference of outcome apart from God’s plan. When His will becomes your will, delight and faith abound.

The journey of joy you share with Jesus – and with your horse – can be effortless. Every load becomes so light it fails to even register as a burden.  What could be more blessed than to walk each day in true delight?

“You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy.” – Psalm 16:11
