Do Not Fret Because of Evildoers

The first line from Psalm 37 introduces what is a powerful salve for the open sores on our spirits, which have been daily abused and contused by our witness of the ascendancy of sin and evil in our nation.

Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.

People-watching has become a far different exercise than it was when Art Linkletter’s, “Kids Say the Darndest Things”, was a television success. What used to be a delightful collage of ever-changing color, habit, creativity, and surprise, has changed to a dark, disturbing parade of the evils of these last days.

It is a far different picture today as we watch wicked people crawl down our streets, listen to the lies coming from the mouths of those in formerly respected high places, and desperately try to remove the stain of filth that remains everywhere they go.

The human condition is terminal. Our sin nature is in its death throes and is waging war against the children of God with all the strength it can muster. Given the facts of the day, doesn’t it make sense to be just a tad bit worried?

The Lighter Side of the End Time

The wicked plots against the just,
And gnashes at him with his teeth.
The Lord laughs at him,
For He sees that his day is coming. ~ Psalm 37:12-13

How foolish it is to stand against the Word and Power of the Lord God Almighty. In the face of such opposition, the Lord laughs.

Praising God Amidst the Flames

Tougher times are coming. If you think it looks bad now, just wait.  Maybe the Lord can laugh at our circumstance, but isn’t the scriptural fact that worse is yet to come good reason for worry?

They [the upright] shall not be ashamed in the evil time, and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. ~ Psalm 19

God provided food and water to the Israelites in the desert. Trust me, He is able to do the same for us today. So, what are we to do in these latter days of the church age? The final two verses of this Psalm give us the clue – trust in the Lord.

But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD;
He is their strength in the time of trouble.
And the LORD shall help them and deliver them;
He shall deliver them from the wicked,
And save them,
Because they trust in Him.

There is no question of how this time ends. God wins. We have been redeeemed. All is well. Have faith. No matter how bad the battle appears to be going at a particular moment, the outcome is known. Jesus has overcome the world, and He will lead us home.
